Meditatio in Gethsemani premiere in Rome
I was gratified to hear the premiere of my commissioned work for organ and viola da gamba consort – Meditatio in Gethsemani – was greeted with such enthusiasm and emotion as part of the 40th anniversary of the Oratorio del Gonfalone in Rome on November 7. Mine was the only “new” work in a program of 17th-century fare including pieces by Frescobaldi, Palestrina and Stradella.
Many thanks to Andrea De Carlo, director and gamba virtuoso and the other performers that evening as part of the 2019 Festival Barocco Alessandro Stradella di Viterbo e Nepi. Included here along with Andrea are gamba performers André Lislevand, Irene Caraba, Serena Seghettini and organist Lucia Adelaide Di Nicola.
