Composer Brian Field "Three Generations" debuts, Christmas song for US veterans

Debuting on December 8, 2023, "Three Generations” is a heartrending song that offers an intimate reflection on the lives of three generations of US Marines during the holiday season in a poignant tribute to our heroes. With music and lyrics by Brian Field, the work artfully combines elements from the country and crossover classical genres.

The song’s moving narrative centers around a father who contemplates the service history of his family, beginning with his father's dedication during the Vietnam War, followed by his own honorable service in Desert Storm, and culminating with his son's deployment during the waning days of the Iraqi occupation. Throughout the piece, we experience the father's mourning for the loss of his son during deployment, a loss felt even more keenly during the holiday season. Yet, amidst the sorrow, there is a deep sense of pride - pride that three generations of Marines have faithfully served their nation.

"Three Generations" stands as an affecting homage to those who have served in the armed forces and experienced the profound impact of such service on their families. It also encapsulates the spirit of Christmas by seamlessly incorporating fragments of the beloved Christmas carol "Joy to the World" into its instrumental arrangement.
